What Wondrous Love Is This: Christ Died and Rose Again for You [OPINION]

Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Worldwide, Christians are celebrating Easter commemorating the day Jesus Christ rose from the dead. His death and resurrection fulfilled a covenant God made with mankind that a path to salvation would be made for the sinner.

As a Christian believer, I struggle with sharing Jesus with non-believers. It has been so long since my baptism into the faith and a quick inventory of my church attendance indicates that it might be 30 days maximum for the longest stretch between appearances at worship.

Thus I can sense the danger of overwhelming anyone who has either rejected the message or still exploring their belief in Jesus Christ. I feel my strengths are mainly encouraging others who are already walking with Jesus.

If I were to pen a letter to unbelievers, the goal would be to introduce someone to Jesus or rekindling an interest in a Savior. All I can do is lead someone there with the rest of the journey to the truth finished by the individual. My faith or someone else’s can’t save anyone. Each person must trust in the promise of Jesus’ death and resurrection on their own.

A blessing to you brothers and sisters, that your heart be softened so that your mind can accept the love of God our Father. It is true that He loves you. Regardless of who you are or what you’ve done.

During Jesus’ time on earth, He spent a lot of time with sinners. Accounts of Jesus healing and feeding with compassion are vital parts of each Gospel.

Please read these chapters in the Bible written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Notice how he talks to people. There is sympathy for those who come to Jesus asking for help and unvarnished talk to those who questioned the ministry of Christ.

You will also find simple invitations, “Follow Me,” and “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Jesus also understands that perfection is unattainable as his trusted disciple Peter denied Him under pressure, but eventually reinstated him after the Resurrection, “Take care of my sheep.”

The Ten Commandments are drawn from God’s law given to Moses in the Old Testament. Jesus sums it up this way, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Additionally, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

It’s likely that you have learned that love among humans takes time to cultivate. The same rules apply to fall in love with Jesus. You build trust over time and learn that His promises are never broken and all things that happen are for your good.

Simple? Yes, but not easy. The physical world in which we live is a mistress unto itself and also is vying for your attention. We can experience pleasures right now making it problematic to delay gratification toward an eternity of rest in Christ.

Just know that the Son of Man took a brutal beating for the mistakes and shortcomings of billions of people. He then gave up His spirit willingly to bring us into His presence and declare the debt owed for our sins paid in full.

Put yourself aside for a moment and listen to the One calling out for you. He misses you and loves you. “Come, follow Me.” This is the God I know.

May the seed of His love be planted in you. So that the eventual harvest will bear mercy and peace through God’s grace which is given freely to all.
