It’s back to back championships for the South Dakota men’s indoor track and field team.

The Coyotes won their second straight Summit League title on Saturday in Fort Wayne, Ind with 253 points.  South Dakota State finished third with 95 points.

USD’s Jeff Mettler ran to the championship in the mile with a time of 4:11.03.  It was Mettler’s second title of the meet, and his fourth Summit League indoor championship.

Cody Snyder broke the Summit League and USD shot put record with a top mark of 59-feet 11.75-inches.  Snyder’s toss broke the previous school record of 59-5 and league record of 59-4.25.

Coyote Brandon Kovash recorded his first two individual league championships, winning the 60-meter dash in 6.9-seconds and the 200-meters in 22.20.

Mach Dojiok took the league 800-meter title in 1:55.03, edging Moses Heppner of North Dakota State by two-hundredths of a second.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Teivaskie Lewin set a new IPFW Athletics Center Fieldhouse record with a time of 8.03-seconds, breaking the old record set by Brandon Winters of Purdue on Dec. 7 last year by one-hundredth of a second.

The USD men’s 4×400 relay team of  Erik Hill, Lukas Bernard, Christian Nielsen and Casey Shade added a win in 3:20.28 to round out the men’s team’s wins.

For South Dakota State, Joel Reichow held off North Dakota State’s Brett Kelly to win the 5,000-meter run in a personal-best time of 14:39.42.
