If there were a picture of determination, grit, perseverance and fearlessness, it would be a photograph of Austin Schoppert-Coffee. This handsome little man with the ginger hair, freckles, infectious grin and indomitable spirit, personifies those qualities.

Austin contracted a rare form of bacterial meningitis when he was just three and doctors were forced to remove all of his limbs to save his life. He is now an active, thriving first-grader with a fierce streak of independence. All he needs is a home that will help him continue on the road to handi-capable.

This is a story where the term "it takes a village" certainly applies. The home is currently under construction in Tea, thanks to the gift of the lot the house sits on and contributions from many donors, but there is a way to go before it becomes Austin's home.

Starting next Friday, March 7th, a two-day fundraising event kicks off at the Artist Hair Studio & Spa in Tea. They are holding a Cut-A-Thon from 11 am to 7 pm. Haircuts are only $20 for women, $15 for men and $10 for kids. There will also be a bake sale with all kinds of yummy stuff and a silent auction. 100% of all proceeds will be donated to "A Home For Austin"

Day two of the fundraiser involves Chive On Sioux Falls and the very talented Goodroad Band as well as DJ Absolute from Soulcrate Music performing as The 18th Amendment hosts an "Unofficial Chive Meetup". Admission is free, but you can buy $10 wristbands for keg beer, there will be silent auction packages, a 50/50 raffle with door prizes, and all kinds of merchandise for sale with proceeds once again benefiting "A Home for Austin".

If you need a reason to look outside of yourself and get beyond what you see as your major life issues, look no further than this extraordinary little boy! Reach out, get involved, give from your heart and enjoy. Find out more about the remarkable Austin here.
