PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – Sandy Zinter, the head of South Dakota state government’s personnel agency, is retiring.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard says he hates to see Zinter retire from her job as commissioner of the Bureau of Human Resources, but he understands her desire to spend more time with her family.

Zinter has led the bureau for 18 years. Of the current members of the governor’s cabinet, Zinter has served the longest in the same position.

Zinter is retiring on June 7.

Daugaard says he has appointed Kim Stahl, a former official in the Bureau of Human Resources, to serve as interim commissioner until a new commissioner is named. Stahl, retired in January after almost 35 years in state government.
