‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ May Director Already

Star Wars Episode 7
Lucasfilm/20th Century Fox

Star Wars: Episode 7‘ has only been a public reality for about a week now but it certainly looks like Disney isn’t messing around. If the latest rumors are to be believed, they’ve zeroed in on a director for ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ and are in talks to close a deal. So who is the man who will follow George Lucas? Well if you’re a superhero fan, you’re definitely familiar with his work.

Collider is reporting that Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Pictures are in talks with Matthew Vaughn (‘X-Men: First Class’ and ‘Kick Ass’) to write and direct ‘Star Wars: Episode 7.’ If you’ll remember, Vaughn recently dropped out of directing ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘ (a job that went to Bryan Singer) and so the rumor goes, he dropped out because he knew ‘Star Wars’ was on the horizon.

When the Disney/Star Wars news was announced, it was reported that the studio was already in talks with writers about the project. Many speculated it could be ‘LOST’ creator and ‘Prometheus‘ writer Damon Lindelof (a rumor he quickly shot down). But perhaps one of the writers was Vaughn who co-wrote both ‘Kick Ass’ and ‘X-Men’ with writing partner Jane Goldman.

This report cautions that the news is not yet confirmed and should be treated as a rumor. But it’s news that makes sense and the pieces fit together better than any news we’ve heard to date. The question is, will this make the rabid ‘Star Wars’ fans happy? What do you think? Can Matthew Vaughn be the guy to bring ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ to the screen or do you have a different director in mind?
