Stand-Off in Dell Rapids Ends Peacefully. Suspect Sent for Psychiatric Evaluation.
A standoff near Dell Rapids involving law officers and a man wanted on felony larceny and ingesting warrants ended peacefully Wednesday night when the suspect surrendered after four hours.
Sergeant Jason Gearman of the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office says 20-year-old Tahlen Bourassa had been ingesting and was possibly suicidal, and carrying an illegal weapon.
Gearman says Bourassa was located between 1pm and 2pm near the Baltic Corner by the Fugitive Task Force and pursued for a short time, and he later holed up at a business in an industrial area just south of Dell Rapids:
Officers surrounded the building and monitored the situation from a helicopter and the SWAT team's armored vehicle.
Gearman says Bourassa surrendered without incident around 9:30 p.m. He was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
