Unemployment in South Dakota dropped slightly from August to September, ending the month at a seasonally-adjusted rate of 4.4 percent.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says South Dakota's jobless rate has remained relatively stable during the first three quarters of this year, holding at 4.3 percent from February through June.

The rate fluctuated during the most recent quarter, reaching 4.5 percent in August 2012 and ending with the preliminary September rate of 4.4 percent.

The Bureau says the September 2012 labor force of 442,600 in the state decreased from the level in September of last year.
