SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Sioux Falls city leaders can move ahead with a plan to move the railroad switchyard in downtown.

State and federal officials have signed off on a seven-year impact study that found there would be no major environmental impact if the tracks were removed.

That allows the city to begin the appraisal process for the 10 acres that could eventually be sold and developed.

The land is along Phillips Avenue between downtown and Falls Park.

Switching operations would take place at other Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Ellis & Eastern Railroad yards in the region.
