Here’s a message from Tony Burke of the American Red Cross in Sioux Falls!
In light of the frigid weather, Tony urges you to stay indoors as much as possible.
“To be most direct—stay warm! Stay home unless you absolutely must to go to the hospital or some place that is essential. We are making a bigger risk for our emergency responders as well. All the schools are closed.go. Unless you must go out, stay indoors.”
Tony says within minutes of being exposed to the cold, frostbite is imminent no matter how much clothing you have on. “Don’t take the risk. It’s not worth it.”
If you plan to travel, Tony says you should have a winter survival kit in your car as well as a cell phone battery in case you get in an accident.
