Orange Cone Season Beginning
We're getting into spring, and that means construction season, here and away.
You know, the season where you're driving up to a Twins game, for example, and you either get to take a detour or drive at a reduced speed in head-to-head traffic somewhere between here and there. For us, it always seems to be on Highway 169.
Or the same thing happens on the Interstate highways.
One in Sioux Falls this summer is going to affect everyone who drives in the area of the Arena, Howard Wood Field or Sioux Falls Baseball Stadium.
The City of Sioux Falls is rebuilding Russell Street, and it won't be completely finished until November 2014.
This year, the westbound lanes between Minnesota Avenue and Westport Avenue are in line, so to speak, for reconstruction.
The work will start in the southeast quadrant of the Russell-Westport intersection.
When the intersection work is finished, the westbound lanes of Russell Street will be closed from Westport to Kiwanis, and traffic will be head-to-head in the eastbound lanes.
The eastbound lanes will be done in 2014.
It's going to be inconvenient for some, but not impossible--or impassable.
You can handle it, and just think of how good it will be to drive on the new street surface once it's all finished.
