The Sioux Falls Police Department is taking delivery of some new squad cars.

Police Chief Doug Barthel says they had to look for a different type of car, since Ford no longer makes its police package Crown Victorias, but after a lot of research they decided on Ford's new Police Interceptor vehicles--ten sedans and eight SUVs that he says are built specifically for police work.

Barthel says they've also updated the graphics on the cars, and he says the new vehicles get about twenty percent better mileage than the existing vehicles.

He says it will be three to four years before the entire fleet of patrol cars is replaced.
