Mitchell Man Shoots Himself in Leg Practicing His Quick Draw
If you're planning a career in the quick draw competition field, it's typically a good idea to double check to make sure your gun is unloaded before practicing, especially if you plan on practicing inside your house. I'm guessing a 19-year-old Mitchell, South Dakota, man is wishing he would have done that right about now.
KSFY TV is reporting the man accidentally shot himself in the leg while in the process of practicing Saturday night. Detective Lt. Don Everson of the Mitchell Police Department told KSFY TV, that authorities were called to the Mitchell hospital just after 7:00 PM on Saturday (January 13). When police arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the leg.
According to the report, the man was practicing his "quick draw" skills inside his home in the 1400 block of Main Street, when he drew (what he thought was his unloaded) .45 caliber revolver from its holster and fired it. The bullet hit the man's leg, and went into the floor. The round did not exit the home.
According to KSFY TV, another person was home at the time of the accident, but no one else was injured.
Authorities are still determining if criminal charges will be filled as a result of the incident.
