Jags Sweep Jacks In Mitchell
MITCHELL, SD — IUPUI used a nine run second inning in the opener and an eight run inning in the first inning of the nightcap to cruise to a 14-4 and a 15-3 win over South Dakota State on Saturday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.
The losses drop the Jackrabbits to 7-20 on the season overall and to 2-6 in The Summit League, while the Jaguars end the day 14-15 overall and 3-4 in league play.
Both teams went down in order in the first inning of Game 1, but the Jaguars plated nine runs on seven hits in the second to take a commanding 9-0 lead.
The Jackrabbits got on the board in the third, and added one more in the fourth and two runs in the fifth, including Lauren Chirnside’s first-career homerun, but the Jags scored two in the fourth and three in the fifth to run away with the win.
The Jaguars kept it rolling in Game 2, scoring eight runs on five hits and one SDSU error to stake themselves to an 8-0 lead.
SDSU got one back in the bottom of the first, but the Jags took that one right back in the second, and then added five more in the third to put the game away.
Jennifer Sutton took the loss in the circle in Game 1, with Ashlyn Bender falling in Game 2.
The Jackrabbits look to avoid the sweep in the series finale on Sunday, again in Mitchell due to unplayable field conditions at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium. The series finale starts at noon at Cadwell Park.
