LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A 20-plus halftime lead helped UALR (5-5) beat South Dakota State (9-6), 66-45, in women’s basketball action Sunday at the Stephen Center.

The Jackrabbits were outscored 37-16 at halftime, posting the fewest points in a first half since scoring just four points vs. Cincinnati at the Cancun Challenge Nov. 24, 2011.

Freshman Chynna Stevens (Clark) and junior Rachel Walters (Sioux Falls) each had eight points to lead the Jackrabbits. Junior Mariah Clarin (Princeton, Minn.) had seven points and a game-high nine points.

The Trojans were led by Taylor Ford with a game-high 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field.

UALR opened the game with a 14-2 run before junior Gabby Boever (Worthington, Minn.) scored three points on a traditional three-point play. The Trojans continued to add to their lead with a 16-2 run capped by a bucket from Jackson at 5:06. SDSU cut the lead to 19 points with 3:58 left after sophomore Chloe Cornemann (Yankton) made the first of two from the foul line, and Stevens got the free throw rebound and basket.  The Jacks scored their final four of six points from the charity stripe, and trailed 37-16 at halftime.

The Jacks had an 8-3 run to start the second half, cutting the lead to 18 points, 46-28, with 15:52 left when Rachel Walters sank the team’s first three-pointer of the game.

SDSU got as close as 14 points twice, the last with 6:37 left when Boever’s layup made it 55-41.

South Dakota State returns to action Thursday when it meets No. 2/2 Notre Dame for a 6 p.m. game in South Bend, Ind.
