If you're a fan of deer hunting, getting a license may be more difficult. South Dakota wildlife officials are wanting to issue fewer licenses over the next two years.

The Game, Fish and Parks Department wants to cut the number of deer hunting licenses and tags available over the next two years by more than 10,000.

Doe licenses would be scaled back the most, with East River seeing a 44% reduction to just under 13,000 tags. West River would see a 33% reduction to about 5,800 tags.

Meanwhile, buck tags in the East River area would be reduced 5% to just under 18,900. Buck tags in the West River area would be scaled back 2% to just over 16,000.

The department says that last year 44% of East River deer hunters were successful, compared to 53% of hunters in West River.

The proposals will be formally voted on June 8.
