Eyes on the Price
I don’t know about you, but when I’m driving past a gas station, I almost always check the price at the pump, if their sign is visible. Now, don’t think I’m looking to one side or the other when I should be watching what’s ahead. I just like to know the prices.
I’m no expert on pricing or marketing, and I might not even need gas at the moment. I just like to know and maybe make a mental note.
For example, when I drive Minnesota Avenue most mornings on my way to police briefing, I drive past four or five stations and I do some mental comparisons, just to see for myself.
And all the while, I try not to think what gas (Regular or Ethyl in those days) was selling for when I got my first driver’s license in, oh, the mid-to-late 1960’s. In those days anyway, I just backed up to the pump at home, and it was up to my dad to keep the underground tank full. It was a pretty good deal for me.
And I especially try not to think about gas wars.
