This particular thoroughfare is a long-awaited project that will continue to add to the quality of life to eastern Sioux Falls. It’s a part of the Highway 100 project. The impetus of constructing a 4-lane divided highway is to link Interstate 90 East of Sioux Falls near Brandon, sweep south toward Harrisburg then through Tea and back north to Interstate 90 closer to Hartford.

The stretch being constructed this season starts at 26th on the north side and 57th street on the south. State officials estimate the cost for this portion of the project to be $18.3 million.

At 26th Street and Highway 11, the entire road bed will be rebuilt.  By the looks of the road that is already in place, it will take a similar look.  The concrete median will divide the highway with turning lanes installed at regular intervals regardless of current developments.

On the southern end, this portion will include a major connection being built with 57th Street. West of Highway 11, the stretch will soon be four lanes from Sycamore Avenue all the way to the Highway 11 junction. For the time being, the road continuing east will remain a gravel surface.
