Adrian Peterson Wants Michael Vick: Agree or Disagree?
Adrian Peterson thinks the Minnesota Vikings should go after quarterback Michael Vick.
The former MVP tweeted his thoughts saying, “Vick would intently make the Vikings a playoff team.”
Vick is 33, and only played in six games last season after losing his job to Nick Foles. Since 2006, he hasn’t started more than 13 games in a season.
However, Christian Ponder is the only Vikings quarterback under contract, and odds are the team will look to free agency or to the NFL Draft for a quarterback.
So, Vikings fans, do you agree with Peterson? Should the team bring in Vick?
To start the discussion, would bringing in a quarterback with an injury-riddled past be smart? As stated earlier, Vick hasn’t started more than 13 games in a season. Ouch.
He will 34 in the summer. How much more does he have left in the tank?
Other than Vick, there is other free agent quarterbacks that would have better appeal, too.
One, even though Matt Cassel opted out of his contract, bring him back as an insurance policy. He gelled and played solid down the stretch. Though, the Vikings may have to fight with the Houston Texans for his rights.
Two, sign Josh McCown. He did great in relief of Jay Cutler last season for the Bears, passing for 1,829 yards, 13 touchdowns, and one interception. However, the Vikings may have to compete with the Bears.
That being said, with Ponder as the only quarterback right now, the Vikings will certainly be on the market for a quarterback. It’s just that it is very slim. Vick, Cassel, and McCown highlight the 2014 free agent class. Other quarterbacks feature Josh Freeman, Chad Henne, Shaun Hill, Derek Anderson, Rex Grossman, Matt Flynn, Tarvaris Jackson, David Garrard, and Kellen Clemens.
Then, there’s the NFL Draft. The Vikings hold the eighth pick, and if Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, or Blake Bortles fall, they could build around one of those guys. If not, select defense first, and look to take a quarterback in the later rounds. LSU’s Zach Mettenberger, Eastern Illinois’s Jimmy Garoppolo, Alabama’s A.J. McCarron, Fresno State’s Derek Carr, or San Jose State’s David Fales all could viable options after the first round.
What do you think the Vikings should do at quarterback?
