The jobless rate in South Dakota held steady in July at 3.9 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The state had a labor force of 449,000 in July, up by 6,000, or 1.6 percent, from a year earlier, while the number of unemployed people decreased by 13 percent during that time, or 2,600 people.

Labor and Regulation Secretary Pam Roberts says the state's economy continues to strengthen. As she puts it, "Employers are hiring more workers than they were a year ago."
