Sioux Falls area non-profit organizations need to file their applications soon if they wish to receive  grants from the Sioux Empire United Way.  These grants will be distributed in order to be used for the 2013 calendar year.

This year, Sioux Empire United Way is again accepting requests for grant funds in twelve different areas:  After-School, Basic Needs, Child Care, Counseling, Disabilities, Diversity, Emergency Services, Health & Healing, Seniors, Success By 6, Youth Development, Youth Outreach.

Since 2003, United Way has awarded over $1.6 million in grant funds to area non-profits for new or expanding programs.  The grant funds have assisted in the development of several area agencies and programs in the past ten years, including Family Visitation Center, Furniture Mission, and HorsePower.

Community Impact Grants are open to all IRS designated 501 (c) 3, non-profit agencies located within Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, and Turner Counties.  Proposals are to be for new programs or for current programs with significant expansions that current budgets cannot support.  Priority is given to programs that can substantiate need through documented research.  Proposals are reviewed and funding determined by local community volunteers.  Grant funding is a one-year designation with the option to apply up to three years.

Local non-profits are encouraged to contact Sioux Empire United Way at 336-2095 or  to request an application.  The deadline for submitting completed applications is November 29th.  If approved for a grant, funding will begin in April 2013.

Most of the time we hear about the drive for funds coordinated by the Sioux Empire United Way.  Now is the time for needy organizations to step up and access the good will of the community.
