New Alert System Launched in South Dakota
The state of South Dakota has added another alert to its state system.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says the Blue Alert is activated when there’s a suspect at large who has killed or caused serious injury to a law enforcement officer or if an officer has been abducted or is missing.
"I'm a strong believer in putting out information so that the public can protect itself and also can take steps to help law enforcement, and this is one more step in that direction." said Jackley.
He says the Blue Alert uses the same notification system as the Amber Alert for child abduction.
Partners in this system include the South Dakota Bureau of Information and Telecommunications, South Dakota Public Broadcasting, Central South Dakota Communications and the Division of Criminal Investigation.
