Two South Dakotans to Texas Flood Victims with Red Cross
Two South Dakotans volunteering with the local chapter Red Cross Dakotas Region have arrived in Texas with an emergency response vehicle to help those cleaning up and recovering from days of flooding according to Brian Shaw, regional communication director:
Rich Rhoades, of Sioux Falls, and Rex Tollefson, of Hitchcock, SD, will join more than 400 Red Cross volunteers from around the country who are providing shelter, meals, health services and emotional support in coordination with partners like Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and The Salvation Army. This is Rhoades fourth deployment with the Red Cross and Tollefson’s first.
Both Rhodes and Tollfeson will spend at least two weeks in Texas using the emergency response vehicle to deliver food and water, clean up kits, tools, sunscreen, mosquito repellent and other supplies.
6,000 homes are estimated to have been affected by this latest round of floods.
