Kent Alberty is the only incumbent who is running for another term on the Sioux Falls School Board. Alberty has completed two terms and is trying for a third. He has two grown children who went through the Sioux Falls Public Schools.

Alberty has enjoyed the time he has spent in his position and clearly hopes to win another term. Education is important to him and Kent wants to continue in that capacity.

Making decisions are required in Alberty’s position and he feels that having to cut the Reading Recovery positions due to budget restraints was the toughest to resolve. However, Alberty is gratified with the advent of the Career Tech Ed Academy. Students have been able to develop skills that gives them an advantage for the employment path that suits them.

As the future beckons, Alberty is aware that technology will be an integral part of preparing students. Nonetheless, he indicates teachers will need to mix the old standards of reading and writing with technology.  Beyond serving on the school board, Alberty co-owns Employment Edge Staffing and Business Services. He is a life long resident of Sioux Falls.

Kent joined the faculty lounge at Viewpoint University and had a chat with Rick Knobe and Dan Peters.  Below is the full interview in two segments.
