SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Some garbage haulers and residents in Sioux Falls are worried about a proposed ordinance that would require people to keep their trash cans hidden.

The Argus Leader reports that the City Council will vote on the ordinance next week. It would require garbage cans to be inside, behind, or beside a structure.

The proposal is in response to concerns voiced by resident John LaVergne. He says it's a matter of "city aesthetics."

But resident Mark Liepha says he doesn't like the idea of the city dictating where he can keep his cans. And some garbage haulers say they're worried that people would forget to put their trash out on collection day — and if drivers have to hunt for cans it could result in higher rates.
