A senior season full of promise is gaining more traction as the beginning draws nigh.  South Dakota State University senior guard Nate Wolters is listed among the Wooden Award preseason top 50.

The John R. Wooden Award is billed as the most prestigious individual honor in college basketball.  A nationwide panel chooses the nation’s best player at an institution of higher education who makes progress toward graduation and maintains a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.

Previous award winners include Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan and last year’s recipient Anthony Davis.  Most award winners have been seniors, but with the advent of the one-and-done college player.  Many more underclassmen such as Kevin Durant have been recent winners.  There is also a women’s Wooden Award winner each year as well.

This year’s top 50 include three members of the Louisville Cardinals, among the seven from the Big East conference.  The Big 10 had the most nominees with nine selections, while Wolters was the only Summit League player making the preseason list.
