Tea Area Takes Third In Class A Over St. Thomas More
SIOUX FALLS, SD -- Tea Area took an 11-point halftime lead and made it stand up for a 45-35 win over St. Thomas More Saturday in the third-place game at the South Dakota Class A boys basketball tournament.
The Titans (17-9) shot 47 percent from the field and made 14 of 18 free throws. St. Thomas More struggled all game and finished at 24 percent. The Cavaliers (17-8) made just 2 of 16 3-pointers.
Gunnar Ensz and Tarin Smallfield had 11 points each and Cooper Hansen added 10 for Tea Area.
Jacob Henderson had 11 and Jeron Laurenti and Isaac Kortemeyer scored 10 each for St. Thomas More.
FIFTH PLACE
TRI-VALLEY 54, SIOUX VALLEY 53
SIOUX FALLS, SD -- Brendon Boomsma made two free throws with 12 seconds left to play to lift Tri-Valley over Sioux Valley 54-53 in the fifth-place game at the South Dakota Class A boys basketball tournament on Saturday.
Boomsma finished with 22 points. He Je made 5 of 11 field goals and 8 of 11 free throws for the Mustangs (14-12). Boomsma was the only double-figure scorer for Tri-Valley
Sioux Valley (20-5) had taken a 53-52 lead on Tayt Vincent's three-point play with 16 seconds left. Vincent was held to just seven points.
SEVENTH PLACE
CHEYENNE-EAGLE BUTTE 83, PINE RIDGE 55
SIOUX FALLS, SD -- Creighton LeBeau scored 34 points as Cheyenne-Eagle Butte beat Pine Ridge 83-55 in the seventh-place game at the South Dakota Class A boys basketball tournament on Saturday.
The Braves (20-5) outscored Pine Ridge 32-12 in the second quarter to take a 47-24 lead into halftime.
LeBeau was 10-for-17 from the field and 9-for-9 from the line. He made 5 of 8 3-pointers and led the Braves in rebounding with six. Xavier Norris added 22 points.
The Thorpes (20-5) got 16 points from Jacob Dreamer and 13 from Jacob Brown.
