Walters Earns Capital One Academic All-District Honors
SIOUX FALLS, SD — The University of Sioux Falls’ Amanda Walters has been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Softball team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognizing her performances athletically and in the classroom.
A senior pitcher from Sioux Falls, Walters is coming off of the best season of her career as she recorded an ERA of 2.60 and a WHIP of 1.19 while going 18-9 on the mound for the Cougars. Walters stifled opponents at the plate as she set the USF single season (215) and career (354) records for strikeouts. She also holds single season records in innings pitched (175), wins (18) and saves (3) in addition to the career record for saves (3).
Walters is one of just 12 athletes from District 7 which is made up of the Great American, Mid-America and Northern Sun Conferences and is one of just five student-athletes from the NSIC to be named to the Academic All-District team.
To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and be nominated by their sports information director.
Walters will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
