The biggest difference between an audiologist and a hearing aid dealer is in their scope of practice due to extensive graduate education. Audiologists are certified and trained to manage many areas of hearing health care. This includes:
- Providing hearing services in the schools.
- Cochlear implant programming mapping.
- Hearing aid dispensing and programming
- Cerumen (earwax) management.
- Evaluation and management of tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
Audiologists can also work in a variety of different environments because of their extensive scope of practice, including: private practice offices, hospitals, and public and private schools, universities, and rehabilitation centers.
Audiology Specialty Clinic is the realization of a dream by three Sioux Falls Audiologists.
Melinda Heegel, Dr. Kristen Kaufman and Dr. Lindsey Koch have a combined 53 years of experience in the hearing care field. They provide audiological rehabilitation services to children and adults across the entire age span. In addition to administering hearing tests, they also select, fit, and dispense hearing instruments and related devices without regard to a narrow range of manufacturer, thus selecting the best device for each patient. Melinda, Kristen and Lindsey pledge to make every decision in favor of you, their patient.
