Vikings Fifth At Central Region Tournament, Ostrander And Toivonen Qualify for NCAA Championships
LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Augustana College women’s golf shot a 326 in the final round of the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships to finish in fifth place out of nine teams at 79-over-par 943 (308-309-326).
Augustana’s Allie Ostrander and Marisa Toivonen both tied for seventh overall and qualified for the NCAA Championships as individuals. For the first time since 2006-07, Augustana did not qualify for the NCAA Championships as a team.
Central Oklahoma won the Central Region Championship shooting a 39-over-par 903 (300-302-301) as a team. Taylor Neidy of Central Oklahoma won individual medalist honors coming in at two-under-par 214 (72-70-70). Southwestern Oklahoma State finished second with a 68-over-par 932 (317-305-310) and Arkansas Tech grabbed the third and final bid to the NCAA Championships shooting a 71-over-par 935 (300-319-316).
Ostrander, who shot two-over-par 74′s in the first two rounds, shot an 83 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for seventh overall to earn a bid to the NCAA Championships as an individual. Toivonen carded her lowest round of the three-round tournament shooting a three-over-par 75 this afternoon to tie for seventh at 15-over-par 231 (80-76-75). Toivonen also qualified as an individual for the NCAA Championships.
Senior Maggie Leland played in her final round as an Augustana Viking at the Central Region Championships. Leland fired a 12-over-par 84 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 21st overall at 22-over-par 238 (74-80-84). Leland finishes her career as a two-time NSIC Individual Champion, having won four straight conference championships and two Central Region Championships as a four-time letterwinner.
Jennifer Pederson placed 36th individual shooting a 30-over-par 246 (80-82-84) in the three-day event. Jordan Bormann finished in a tie for 38th with a 31-over-par 247 (80-79-88).
Ostrander and Toivonen will participate in the NCAA Championships at Rock Barn Golf & Spa May 14-17 in Conover, N.C.
