Vikings Break Into Top Five
LILBURN, GA — Augustana women’s basketball moved up one spot to fifth in the latest edition of the USA Today Sports Coaches’ Poll released on Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings have a 9-0 overall record, including a 5-0 mark in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games.
The top four teams remained unchanged with Ashland University (Ohio) still the unanimous No. 1 team followed by Bentley University (Mass.) in second. University of South Carolina – Aiken, and Clayton State University (Ga.) checked in at third and fourth, respectively. The Vikings rounded out the top five with University of Indianapolis losing last week.
Five teams from the central region appear in the Top 25 poll beginning with Augustana in fifth and Washburn (Kan.) following closely at sixth. Fort Hays State (Kan.) cracks the top ten by moving up one spot to No. 10 and followed by Pittsburgh State (Kan.) at 17th. Fellow NSIC member Wayne State rounds out the central region with a No. 19 ranking.
The Vikings’ 9-0 start is the best season-opening run for the program since the 1996-97 squad began the season 11-0.
Augustana is idle until Jan. 4 when they welcome Minnesota State for a Friday night matchup at 6 p.m.
