Vigil Held for Homeless Man Beaten to Death in Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A vigil was held outside a Sioux Falls homeless shelter where a man was recently beaten to death.
Organizer Jean Bhatti says the gathering outside the Union Gospel Mission Monday night was held to take back the site where 61-year-old Robert Allen Petersen was killed Oct. 30. Police say he was repeatedly struck with a chair and died from severe head trauma.
The Argus Leader reports a Minnehaha County grand jury has charged 31-year-old Daniel Obed Murillo one count of second-degree murder and three counts of first-degree manslaughter in Petersen's death.
Bhatti says each death must be recognized. She says if you don't, the violence will escalate.
