Spend Some Time Looking at the Earth from the International Space Station

German astronaut Alexander Gerst spent six months aboard the the International Space Station in 2014. Gerst, a geophysicist and volcanologist, spent his 166 day stay running experiments in physical science, biology, and human physiology as well as radiation research and technology demonstrations.

His mission on the ISS was called Blue Dot, so named because of astronomer Carl Sagan’s description of Earth as “a pale blue dot” as seen on a photograph taken by NASA’s Voyager six.

During his time orbiting the earth her took these amazing pictures of the earth. You can see a sandstorm in the Sahara desert, the cities of the city of Cologne and Paris, an aurora and more.
