Vehicle Registration Fees Increasing
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – The second phase of an increase in South Dakota’s vehicle registration fees will take effect on July 1.
A law passed in 2011 raised vehicle registration fees in two phases. The first took effect in 2011, and the second takes effect this year.
Money from vehicle registration fees, commonly called license plate fees, is used by counties, cities and townships to take care of roads and bridges.
Registration fees are computed according to the weight schedules for non-commercial vehicles.
The new fee schedule can be viewed on the state Motor Vehicles Division’s webpage.
