USF Promotes Kaeding To Associate Head Basketball Coach
SIOUX FALLS, SD — University of Sioux Falls men’s basketball coach Chris Johnson has announced the promotion of Nate Kaeding to associate head coach.
Kaeding, who spent the last three seasons as a Cougar assistant coach, enters his fourth season with the men’s basketball program.
“I would like to thank Coach Johnson and the administration here at the University of Sioux Falls for their support in providing me with this opportunity,” said Kaeding. “The faith and confidence that they have shown me with this promotion is very humbling.”
A proven recruiter with excellent game management capabilities, Kaeding spent four seasons as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Southwest Minnesota State University before joining Coach Johnson’s staff in 2011.
“Nate has done a great job for us, he has been a tireless recruiter and is involved in every decision we make on and off of the floor,” said Coach Johnson. “He is a great young coach who has earned this promotion in every way.”
He added, “I am really excited to continue working with Nate and feel he will make a tremendous head coach in the near future. The bottom line is that Nate makes every aspect of our program better and that helps us create an exceptional experience for our student-athletes.”
Prior to USF, Kaeding served four seasons as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn. While with the Mustangs, he helped guide the program to 62 wins, an NSIC regular-season championship, NCAA central region crown and a berth in the 2009 NCAA DII Elite Eight.
Kaeding began his coaching career in the summer of 2007 by mentoring the 16 and 17-year old ECI Select West AAU team out of North Dakota. Two of Kaeding’s players garnered national attention and went on to play at the NCAA DI level, in the Pac-12 and Mountain West Conferences, respectively.
Kaeding was a three-year letterwinner for the University of Mary. He served as a senior team captain for the Marauders and was a member of the 2006-07 NSIC All-Academic team.
Kaeding graduated from U-Mary in the spring of 2007 with a double major in accounting and business administration. He earned his MBA from Southwest Minnesota State University in 2009.
Added Kaeding, “I feel extremely fortunate to be able to work at an institution like USF, and the people around our university and athletic department are what make it truly a special place to be. It is a really exciting time to be associated with Cougar athletics and I look forward to continuing to help our program strive to reach new heights both on and off the floor.”
The Cougar men’s basketball program returns four starters off last season’s team that went 15-12 overall (12-10, NSIC). Coach Johnson is in his seventh season at USF.
