This Day In History June 28
He was once the Baddest Man On The Planet. Now he just an example of the shining star that blinded at its brightest, but burned out spectacularly. Professional Boxer Mike Tyson has one of his most infamous events to occur on this date in history.
On June 28, 1997 millions watched on pay-per-view as Tyson was matched in the ring as a former champ and former convict. Tyson regained his belts after incarceration, then lost them to Evander Holyfield. This was the rematch.
Tyson was in trouble, getting his tail kicked and responded by head-butting Holyfield in the second round of the fight. Tyson finally earned his exit from the ring in round 3 when he bit off a portion of Holyfield’s ear. Amazingly, the referee did not stop the fight at that point. Tyson must have been thinking, “What do I have to do to get out of here?” Tyson bit Holyfield’s other ear soon after and finally the fight was stopped.
Mike Tyson 16 years later is now on the B-C list of attraction courtesy of reality television and an insatiable need for entertainment for a certain segment of the population.
