Two days after dismantling the Summit League’s best team, Fort Wayne, South Dakota State avoided a letdown at home against the worst team in the conference, IUPUI, beating the Jaguars 83-59 at Frost Arena.

SDSU took good care of the basketball, turning the ball over just four times and led by as many as 31 points in the second half as three players scored in double figures: Jordan Dykstra with 17 points, Brayden Carlson 14, Cody Larson with 13.

The home team also distributed the ball well, with 18 assists on 25 made baskets.

The Jackrabbits attacked IUPUI with a balanced attack early with six different players accounting for the first 15 SDSU points as the Jacks opened the game shooting at a 66 percent clip to lead by as many as 17 in the first 20 minutes.

Zach Horstman helped spark the Jacks off the bench, shooting 2-of-3 with a 3-pointer for seven points, as starters Larson and Chad White each had eight, while Carlson added seven.

The SDSU defense held IUPUI to just 31 percent shooting in the first half, while outrebounding the Jags 20-14 in the first 20 minutes.

IUPUI was without guard Ian Chiles, who was out of the lineup for the fifth straight game with a wrist injury.  Chiles had 21 points in the first meeting with SDSU last month.

The win is the fourth straight for the Jacks and moves them into a second place tie with Fort Wayne in the Summit League, just one game behind first place North Dakota State.

South Dakota State (14-7/6-3) is on the road next week, playing at Omaha and Western Illinois.
