Summit League Honors Four Coyotes, Cue Named Freshman Of The Year

 

VERMILLION, SD — South Dakota freshman pitcher Rachel Cue, junior first baseman Matley Jones, junior center fielder Katie Dinning and junior right fielder Morgan Hancock were named to the All-Summit League Softball Team as selected by the league’s head coaches.

In addition to being named to the team, Cue was named Summit League Freshman of the Year. She becomes the first Coyote to earn one of the league’s top individual softball honors in the program’s third season in the Summit.

Dinning and Jones become the program’s first repeat honorees. Jones was an all-conference second baseman in 2013. This year she’s earning the honor as a first baseman. Dinning is an all-conference outfielder for the second year in a row.

Dinning batted a team-high .385 during the regular season, which ranks third in the Summit. She leads the league and ranks 10th nationally in triples with five. She also has two home runs, 29 RBIs nd 32 runs scored.

Jones batted a team-high .388 in Summit League play, which ranked sixth in the Summit. Her 13 doubles this season rank third in the Summit. Jones is batting .314 overall with five home runs, 19 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

Cue has started 28 of 48 games in the circle for the Coyotes. She has a 17-9 record and an ERA of 2.15. Cue has 157 strikeouts in 189 innings pitched. In Summit League rankings, she is fourth in wins, strikeouts and shutouts with six, and is fifth in ERA.

Hancock is batting .307 with six home runs, 35 RBIs and 32 runs scored. Her 12 doubles rank sixth in the Summit as does her RBI total. Hancock has had four hits in a game three times this year. She also has nine steals, which is the second-highest tally on the team.
