‘Stoker’ International Trailer Emphasizes a Creepy Mia Wasikowska

Fox Searchlight

If you liked the trailer for Park Chan-wook’s ‘Stoker,’ you’re really going to be into the international version, which turns the tables and makes Mia Wasikowska‘s character just a bit more creepy than she was the first time around.

The US trailer for ‘Stoker’ focused more on Nicole Kidman‘s icy speech about her daughter, India (Wasikowska), but the international trailer shortens that bit and places it at the end. Instead, this trailer focuses on what the hell is up with India after her father, Richard Stoker, passes away following a car accident. His brother comes to live with her and her mother, and his very presence sets off a chain of crazy events.

It seems mom might be shacking up with daddy’s brother, played by ‘Watchmen”s Matthew Goode, and he’s got some plans for India, who he says is “of age.” Like her mom, we also want to know, “Of age for what?!” There’s a lot of questions to be answered based on these trailers, and we love the way they’re cut together, leaving us wondering just who the bad guy is supposed to be here. Is India evil? Is her mother on Joan Crawford’s level? Is Uncle Charlie a total sleaze-ball? We’ll sadly have to wait until March of next year to find out.

‘Stoker’ is the English-language debut of Park Chan-wook, the acclaimed director of ‘Oldboy’ and ‘Thirst,’ who directs from a script by Wentworth Miller — yes, Wentworth Miller of ‘Prison Break’ fame. Check out the international trailer below, courtesy of Empire:
