Have you ever walked down an aisle at HyVee or Sunshine and felt like you were being watched? Your kids probably feel it in the cereal aisle.
According to a recent study by researchers from Cornell and Yale, the eyes of cartoon spokes-characters on cereal boxes are sometimes tilted downward to catch the gazes of children walking by.
The results of the study confirmed that over 30% of children felt “more connected” to the cereal that “looked” at them.
I had to find out. So I snapped these pictures at my neighborhood grocery store on my way home. Take a look at what I found.
Almost every popular kids’ cereal had the spokes-character’s gaze meeting the eyes of small children as they walk down the aisle.
