Special Judicial Committee Appointed in South Dakota
A former State Supreme Court Chief Justice and a former governor are among the members of a special committee appointed by current Chief Justice David Gilbertson.
Gilbertson says the Special Committee on Judicial Election Campaign Intervention will “serve as a resource for judicial candidates and help deter impermissible judicial campaign conduct by issuing advisory opinions and responding to complaints related to judicial campaign conduct.”
Chief Justice Gilbertson says all 41 circuit judge positions in the state will be subject to election by voters in 2014.
The nine-member committee includes, among others, retired Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Miller of Pierre, retired Circuit Judge Rodney Steele of Brookings and former Governor Harvey Wollman of Frankfort.
