South Dakota Almost Out Of The Drought Red Zone

Drought Monitor 6 6 13

Lack of sunshine and persistent precipitation is reaping dividends on the latest drought monitor. According to the latest survey released on June 6, more of South Dakota is getting closer to normal moisture levels.

Aberdeen, McIntosh, Huron, Watertown, Pierre and Madison are in normal moisture category as almost 25 percent of the land mass in the state meets that threshold. If you look really close at the extreme southwest corner of the state there is a miniscule section of extreme drought.  Expect improving conditions for at least the next couple of weeks as cooler and wetter conditions continue in the 7-day outlook.
