SD Man Pleads Guilty in Fatal April Crash
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A Faith man has pleaded guilty to charges in an April crash that killed a Pierre woman.
Sixty-three-year-old Walt Taton was accused of driving on the wrong side of state Highway 34 near Hayes and colliding head-on with a van, killing 28-year-old Heather Unser, a passenger in the van.
Taton pleaded guilty Thursday to vehicular homicide, vehicular battery, drunken driving and driving on the wrong side of the road. Prosecutors dropped other charges as part of a plea agreement.
Taton is to be sentenced Dec. 5. He could face up to 26 years in prison.
