Confidence is in short supply for the Sioux Falls Skyforce as the Canton Charge put together a run in the final quarter to earn a 100-82 triumph at the Sioux Falls Arena on Friday night. The Skyforce (22-21) loss did double damage as the team got knocked from NBA Development League playoff contention by one-half game.
The two teams were neck and neck for about the first 40 minutes in the contest. So when Canton (27-17) scored nine straight points in the middle of that final stanza to stretch the lead to thirteen it was the largest spread of the game between the two teams. From there, Canton went to management mode as a desperate Skyforce squad tried without success to answer the spurt.
The Charge are firmly entrenched as East Division leader by four games over both Ft. Wayne and Erie, but Canton could improve their playoff seed with continued stellar play over their final six games. Bakersfield will likely earn the top spot, but Canton and Rio Grande Valley could switch spots before season’s end.
Canton’s effort were spearheaded by 20 points from Kyle Weaver who has fond memories of the Sioux Falls Arena courtesy of previous stints with the Iowa Energy and while on assignment from the Oklahoma City Thunder wearing a Tulsa uniform. Antoine Agudio notched 19 points with Michael Eric dumping in 14 off the bench. Sioux Falls got 21 points and 10 rebounds from James Mays while Jarvis Varnado returned on assignment from the Miami Heat to contribute 12 points 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Both teams will return to the floor for another tussle on Saturday night.
