Saluting the Sweep
A four-game World Series. The Fall Classic doesn’t get any shorter.
Hats off to the San Francisco Giants, winners of four straight over the Detroit Tigers.
I’ve said before that I’m a Minnesota Twins fan, although this year was another tough one.
And I’m generally an American League fan, for all the good that did this year. And last year. And the year before that.
Without a dog in the hunt, it’s harder to get excited even about the World Series.
It’s not like when I was a kid and the Series games were always in the afternoon. That was the only time my class would be allowed to listen to the radio during the school day, and that usually depended on one of my classmates bringing a radio from home.
Now the games are at night, and sometimes they can go late. For that matter, the World Series can run almost into November.
I understand why, because it’s all about advertising and viewers, even if the games go so late kids are in bed by the time they’re over.
But maybe next year the Twins will be back in the thick of the pennant race.
I really, fervently hope so.
