Safety Courses Offered to Young South Dakota Farm Workers
BROOKINGS – South Dakota State University Extension is offering training courses for young South Dakotans who plan to work on farms this summer.
SDSU instructor Nicholas Uilk says certification in a Hazardous Occupation Safety Training in Agriculture course is required for all youth who are 14 and 15 and want to work on a farm other than their own family’s farm.
Farm operators who hire youth who do not have the training can face up to a $10,000 fine. Uilk also encourages youth who will be working on their families’ farms to take the course.
The training courses will be held May 28 in Brookings, May 29 in Aberdeen, May 30 in Winner and June 3 in Gettysburg.
To register, people can call Uilk at 605-688-5675.
