Rutherford Comes Up Just Short In NCAA Central Regional
Rutherford’s three round score of 232 (+16) placed her in a tie for 10th overall. Rutherford ended the day with two birdies, ten pars, four bogeys and two double bogeys.
“Today was definitely a challenge and a little harder than the last two days with the wind, but it’s just a different club in your hand when the wind picks up,” said Rutherford. “I knew coming into the tournament that I was going to have to have three rounds in the 70′s and I feel like I played the best that I could have.”
Heading into the final day of competition sitting just outside of qualifying, Rutherford shot a respectable 78 (+6) in her last round, coming up just short of the third and final individual qualifying spot in the field.
Rutherford looked good early on as she was even through five holes and shot her best front nine of the weekend with her score of 38 (+2). However, a three hole stretch on the back nine which contained two bogeys and one double bogey negated the great start. Despite the rocky stretch for the junior golfer, Rutherford rebounded and was even over the last five holes to put herself in contention for the qualifying spot.
“Overall I would say the tournament went well,” said head coach Brett Bennett. “We knew coming that that we would have to have good golf played and I feel like that happened.”
Central Oklahoma claimed the team title with a three round team score of 903 while Southwest Oklahoma State and Arkansas Tech claimed the final two team qualifying spots. Marisa Toivonen (231/+15) and Allie Ostrander (231/+15) of Augustana and Baylee Price (230/+14) of Northeastern State claimed the three individual qualifying spots for the NCAA Championships held in North Carolina later this month.
