Two teenagers from Huron died Sunday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash on a rural road near Alpena, in Jerauld County.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says 16-year-old Emmanuel Martinez was driving just before 4pm when he lost control of his vehicle on a curve.
The vehicle went into one ditch, then slid across the highway, rolled several times, and came to rest in the opposite ditch.
Neither Martinez nor his passenger, 16-year-old Marisol Corona, was wearing a seatbelt and both were thrown from the vehicle.
Martinez died at the scene, while Corona was transported to the Huron Hospital and later transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital where she died of her injuries.
The Highway Patrol is investigating.
