Raven Teams with Google to Provide Internet Access
KELO-TV reports that Google is using high-tech balloons designed by Sioux Falls-based Raven as part of its Project Loon. Project Loon uses balloons to power internet access.
The project is still in the early stages. But Google and Raven launched a successful trial this week in New Zealand where 30 balloons were released.
The balloons are 60 feet tall and can fly at an altitude of 66,000 feet. The team can control the path of the balloon as they move through the sky. They can also control their altitude so they can sail on the wind at the right speed and direction.
