‘Rambo’ TV Series: Sylvester Stallone Won’t Reprise the Role

Rambo TV Series Sylvester Stallone Wont Return
Lionsgate

Taken aback as we were to learn that a potential ‘Rambo’ TV series had begun the development phase, with Sylvester Stallone in negotiations to be involved creatively and potentially reprise the role, it now seems an understandable caveat has been put in place. Stallone himself will not re-don the headband as John Rambo, should the series make it through development, but what direction might the new adaptation take?

“While a television series based on the ‘Rambo’ property is in development with Entertainment One and Nu Image, contrary to reports, Sylvester Stallone will certainly not reprise his role as the iconic John Rambo for the small screen,” Stallone’s press agents told The Hollywood Reporter.

Should the series take shape, it remains to be seen if the story would focus on a new star in the role of Rambo or, perhaps, a descendant of John. Cinematic ‘Rambo’ producer Avi Lerner said in his original statement, “I’m excited by the prospect of collaborating again with my good friend Sly for an encore in this next phase of the Rambo legacy.”

For those unfamiliar with the character, the ‘Rambo’ franchise began with Stallone’s 1982 adaptation of David Morrell’s novel ‘First Blood,’ following a troubled Vietnam veteran and former Green Beret whose survival skills and expertise in weaponry, hand-to-hand combat and guerrilla warfare carried the franchise across four films, most recently the 2008 reprisal ‘Rambo.’

Well, what say you? Would a ‘Rambo’ TV series have any weight if Stallone himself remained behind the camera? How would you like to see the franchise engineered for TV?
