‘Prometheus 2′ Will Not Bring Back Damon Lindelof
‘Prometheus 2‘ may or may not happen but if it does, it will have to do so without one of the big creative pieces behind the first film. Damon Lindelof, who wrote and produced the original film, will not return for the sequel. And why not?
The thing about Prometheus was it was a rewrite. Jon Spaihts wrote a script and I rewrote it…I can’t do what J.J. [Abrams] does. I don’t have the capability. I’m usually very single-minded creatively. I can only be working on one thing at a time.
So is Lindelof not returning a bad thing? Once the original script by Spaihts leaked online, many felt that what Lindelof brought to the project may have actually hurt the film and – whether fair or not – he took a lot of grief for the perceived shortcomings of the movie. That Lindelof won’t return may provide some optimism for ‘Prometheus 2′ but his lack of involvement could also lead to a lack of a driving creative force behind the sequel (director Ridley Scott seems to have his toes dipped in too many waters as is).
So ‘Prometheus 2′ might be better without Lindelof but also might not happen without him. Catch-22.
Lindelof is currently busy doing what he did on ‘Prometheus’ on the upcoming mysterious (natch) Disney sci-fi film ‘1952.’ (But Jon Spaihts might just be available…)
